You can customize the list of indicators based on your needs and integrate checklists, additional protocols, and indicators. .

Compare an unlimited number of scenarios and obtain a comprehensive assessment of both annual and perennial crops, from "cradle to warehouse".

In addition to the 20 main indicators, YouSustain.net calculates more than 190 additional KPIs in agronomy and environmental engineering, mainly for the assessment of Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) and Product Environmental Footprint (PEF). Drafting reports and establishing baseline scenarios are complementary activities particularly necessary for comparing different crop management methods.

LCA (Life Cycle Assessment)

LCA (Life Cycle Assessment) is a methodology for assessing environmental impacts associated with all stages of a commercial product, process, or service lifecycle. In agriculture, products include cereals, fruit, vegetables, oils, meat, milk, eggs, and mushrooms.

Horta’s expertise involves the life cycle inventory of food raw material products, specifically crop cultivation. Horta’s infrastructure supports agri-food consultants in drafting LCA reports for products.

Digital field notebooks provide agricultural data to quantify greenhouse gas emissions and other impacts needed to prepare LCA performance reports. The collected data feed algorithms, and the KPIs obtained provide ready-to-use field data for agricultural LCA analysis.

Available tools support:

  • ISO 14040 Life Cycle Assessment (LCA)

  • ISO 14067 Product and Organization Carbon Footprint

PEF (Product Environmental Footprint)

PEF (Product Environmental Footprint) is a methodology promoted by the European Commission to measure environmental performance. The indices allow assessing a product’s environmental footprint from various perspectives, based on an LCA (Life Cycle Assessment) approach.

Horta supports food supply chains with automatic calculation of PEF impact categories for each crop activity performed in the field by farmers.

The impact category algorithms follow the European Commission (EU) 2021/2279 recommendations of December 15, 2021, on the use of environmental footprint methods to measure and communicate environmental performance across product and organization life cycles.
